Room selection, an annual process, allows returning residents to select their rooms and choose roommates for the following academic year. Room selection for the 2020-2021 academic year will be held on April 14-16, 2020. The process is online through the My Housing portal.

Returning Student Housing Contract
Students who wish to participate in the room selection process for 2020-2021 must complete the online housing contract. The form is available in the housing module. After logging in using College computing credentials, click Contract and Applications on the top menu and select the Fall 2020 Upperclass and Transfer Housing Contract.
To participate in the online selection process, applications must be completed by Sunday, March 29, 2020 at 11:59pm CDT. Please carefully review the contract before signing. The contract is legally binding and covers the entire 2020-2021 academic year.
REMINDER: Students who are participating in an off-campus program in Fall 2020 should not complete this housing contract. You will sign your housing contract during the Fall 2020 semester for Spring 2021.
Returning students will have the option of selecting double, triple, and quad rooms in the following buildings:
Returning students will also be able to select from singles available in all of our residence halls, except Moore Hall, which has no single rooms, and Cleveland-Young International Center, which uses a separate application. Deerpath Suites will also be available during general room selection.
In addition to our regular room types of singles, doubles, triples, and quads, we have a limited number of super doubles. These are doubles housed in a former quad room in Roberts or McClure and, if space allows, Gregory.
We strongly encourage students to review the full list of room types to understand what rooms are available in which buildings. Please note that some our rooms were renamed to more clearly identify their design and capacity.
Hall rights is an optional process that allows returning students to choose a room in their current building before the full room selection process begins. To be eligible for hall rights, students must have self-selected their room during the previous year’s room selection process and remained in that same hall for both Fall and Spring semesters. First-year students, students who were abroad or off-campus in the fall, and students who have participated in the room change process are not eligible for hall rights.
Please note that participating in hall rights does not guarantee the availability of a specific room or room type and students must be able to fill a room or suite in the hall rights process. For example, two students may choose a double room but will not be eligible to select a quad room. Students may select any other student as their roommate; only one student in the group needs to have hall rights for the building being selected.
Students must opt into the process to be eligible to participate. Students who are eligible will be emailed by the Office of Residence Life with a form to opt in to the process. This form must be completed in addition to the housing contract in order to be valid.
Hall rights will be held online on Friday, April 10, 2020. Additional details, including specific selection times, will be sent to students who elect to participate in the process.
Room Selection Times
Selection times are determined by cumulative credit hours. Credit hours are based on the number of hours successfully completed. Credit hours in progress are not considered; however, credit hours that are transferred in do count toward the total.
We no longer use cumulative GPA in alignment with the College’s goal of removing barriers of inequity. Instead, cumulative credit hours are used to organize students into selection groups. Students within each group are randomized by our housing software to determine priority order. Selection times are assigned using priority order. Students will be emailed when selection times are available in the My Housing portal.
In 2014, the College implemented a three-year residency requirement. All first, second, and third year students are required to live on campus unless they meet the stated exemption requirements:
- Live at home with parent/guardian within 30 road miles of the College;
- Age 23 or older;
- Have dependent children;
- Are married;
- Active members of the armed forces; or
- Have completed 24 credits or more (not including AP or IB credits).
If you wish to apply for exemption from the residency requirement, please contact the Office of Residence Life for details. The priority deadline for exemption requests is Sunday, March 29, 2020 at 4:00pm CDT. Please be aware that the residency requirement may only be appealed before a housing contract is signed.
Cleveland-Young International Center
Students who are interested in the opportunity to participate in Cleveland Young International Center can find more information on the LLC website. A separate application is needed in addition to the general housing contract. The Cleveland-Young International Center application is available here and must be submitted by Friday, March 29, 2020 at 11:59pm CDT.
Roommate Selection & Matching
The roommate matching process begins on March 7, 2020. Students are able to request specific roommates or create an online profile to search for a compatible roommate based on living preferences. Click here to view the instructions for how to request a roommate. Roommate requests must be mutual in order to be honored.
Students are permitted to pull other students into a room with them. The group should plan to use the best selection time in the group (the earliest selection time is the best). Because room selection can be unpredictable in terms of what will fill up first, you are encouraged to make several plans before your selection time. This includes how a roommate group will divide if a particular space is not available. Information about selecting roommate groups online will be emailed on Wednesday, March 4, 2020.
Gender inclusive housing is available to students through the room selection process. Roommate groups may be gender inclusive, which will allow mutually-selected groups to identify their preferred living space on campus. There are no additional steps required to request a gender inclusive housing situation.
Special Needs Accommodation Process
Students with approved accommodations are eligible to participate in a pre-assignment process. All students with approved residential accommodations will be emailed and students must opt into the process in order to be pre-assigned by the Office of Residence Life. Students will receive an email with further details.

We know that room selection is unpredictable and potentially stressful. We offer an online room change process in the summer that allows students to see available rooms and request a move. Online room change requests will be available from July 1-12, 2020. Information about that process will be shared at the close of room selection and redistributed during the summer via email.
The College discontinued room buyouts in January 2018. Students may not hold spaces in their room during room selection and no buyouts will be offered.

The room change process for Fall 2020 will be held in the summer and is an online process. Details will be sent via email to students who have selected a room.
